Ruth C. Bunker, 78 of Brockton, died surrounded by her loving family at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home in Stoughton on Saturday, after a period of failing health.
She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Cook) Guilfoyle. Ruth was raised and educated in Rockland graduating from Rockland High School in 1948 as a member of the National Honor Society. Mrs. Bunker had been living in Brockton for the past 42 years. Ruth held several jobs throughout her career. She worked at Ford Motor Co. in Natick, Baird and Bartlett Paper Supply in Brockton, Aetna Insurance in Brockton, and in her retirement she spent time working for Chadwick’s of Boston in Brockton.
Mrs. Bunker was a lover of music frequently enjoyed attending musical and theatre productions put on by the Brockton High School. She also had a deep interest in politics. Ruth was a member of the Catholic Mothers Club of Brockton.
She is survived by her children Stephen A Bunker and his wife Teri of Taunton, and Craig M. Bunker of Brockton. Sister of Donald J. Guilfoyle and his wife Bette of Hanover, Joan M Davenport of Raynham, and Michael F. Guilfoyle of Pembroke. Sister in Law of, Rosemary Lalli and her Husband Stephen of Marshfield. Also surviving are 3 Grandchildren, Craig P. Bunker, Ryan A. Bunker, and Sean W. Bunker as well as many dear friends..

Frederick F. McGovern, 66, of Rockland died on Saturday, September 2, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was born in Cambridge son of the late Margaret (Shallow), and Bernard McGovern and was raised and educated there. Frederick was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Marine Corps. During his 13 years of service Mr. McGovern was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star.
Mr. McGovern worked for many years as a Supply Contractor for the U.S. Department of Transportation in Cambridge. Frederick also held his Class One Drivers License and drove busses for Peter Pan, and other bus and trolley companies throughout his years.
Mr. McGovern was a member of the Abington V.F.W., and the Marine Corps League in Wilmington.
Frederick is survived by his fiance, Dawn E. Boyle of Rockland. He was the Brother of Bernard McGovern of NH, Margaret DesJardin of Medford, Theresa Avakian of Cambridge, Ruth Zukowski of Somerville, John McGovern of Somerville, and the late Janette Kenney, and Edward McGovern. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

David L. Wetmore, 65 of Hanover formerly of Marshfield died very suddenly at his home on August 31, 2008. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee son of Harriet (Foye) Wetmore of Hanover and the late Leslie L. Wetmore. He was raised and educated in Hanover graduating from Hanover High school in 1960. David enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne at Ft. Benning Georgia. Mr. Wetmore had been a resident of Marshfield for several years before returning to Hanover 18 years ago.
For the past 40 years has been a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Marshfield. He was affectionately referred to as “The Mayor of Marshfield” by his wide circle of friends. An avid gardener, he loved to fish and played every Tuesday at the Pembroke Community Center in organized and pick-up basketball games. In 1980 David was included in the Guiness Book of World Records for his participation in the longest continuous softball game ever played at that time, which was a fundraiser for the March of Dimes and The Jimmy Fund.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his children, Lawrence D. Wetmore of Kissimmee, FL. And Lori Gupton of Bradenton, FL. His siblings, Linda L. Halpern of Berkeley, CA and Donald L. Wetmore of Marina Del Ray, CA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Andrew, Sabrina, Christopher and Sean Wetmore and Samantha Gupton and his close friend Bruce Davenport of Weymouth.

Rosemary A. Martinson, (Sitkoski), 91 of S. Weymouth died at the Weymouth Health Care Center on August 30, 2008 after a period of failing health. She was born in Iron River, Michigan daughter of the late Alexander and Grace (Hammacher) Sitkoski and was raised and educated there. Her family fondly recalls the stories of her love for swimming as a young child and her passion for frequent dips in the Iron River much to her mother’s consternation.
During the Great Depression, Rosemary was employed with the WPA as a seamstress. She was a longtime E. Weymouth and Quincy resident and has made her home in S. Weymouth since 2003. Mrs. Martinson had a deep love for animals and enjoyed reading romance novels, playing cards and completing crossword puzzles. She was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Wife of the late Arne B. Martinson, Sr. she is survived by her children, Grace M. Grant of FL., Martha Adams Bush of Hingham, Arne B. Martinson, Jr. of Rockland and Rosemarie H. Conte of S. Weymouth. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Walter N. Berry, 88 of Hanover died suddenly at his home on August 27, 2008. He was born in Boston, son of the late Irving and Mary Berry and was raised and educated in Quincy. Mr. Berry was a WW II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Walter had previously been employed with the New York-New Haven Railroad and for twenty years prior to his retirement he was an electrician for Delta Air Lines in Boston. He has made his home in Hanover for the past 43 years
Husband of the late Mildred F. (Walsh) Berry, he is survived by his children, Walter C. Berry and his wife Nancy of Abington and Robert A. Berry and his wife Jessie of Rockland. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Thomas W. Collyer, 76 a lifelong Rockland resident died very suddenly on August 26, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was born in Weymouth son of the late Charles and Ruth (Robinson) Collyer. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1993 after a lengthy career as a self employed auto mechanic at his business named Tom’s Auto. Mr. Collyer was a member of the Josselyn Cummings Post #149 of the American Legion in Hanover and was an avid gardener.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Morgan) Collyer and the father of the late Thomas W. Collyer, Jr. and William T. Collyer. Tom is survived by his children, Dorothy A. Murray of Rockland, Robert A. Collyer of Brockton and Vicki L.Cederquist of Plymouth. He was the brother of Ruth Schadwald of Rockland, Joan Gillis of FL, Miriam Ferwerda of Hanover, Nancy Carle of Bridgewater, Edith Ferguson of VA, Charles “Bud” Collyer of Quincy and the late Robert, Carleton and Owen Collyer. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, a great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Jerilynn L. Yannone, 65 of Halifax died on August 12, 2008 at the Brockton Hospital. She was born in Brockton, daughter of the late Robert E. and Helen J. (Drew) Carr and was raised and educated in Rockland. She was a graduate of Rockland High School and later received nursing training at the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing and Massasoit Community College. Mrs. Yannone had been employed as an LPN at Goddard Hospital in Stoughton for many years, and at the time of her retirement in 2001, was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Colony House Nursing Home in Abington. Jerilynn enjoyed knitting, sewing and bowling.
She is survived by her children, Pamela J. Yannone and her friend Richard Bersani of Brockton, Kenneth J. Yannone, Jr. of NH, Richard A. Yannone and his wife Teresa of Foxboro, Roberta L. McCarthy and her friend Matthew Delaney of Brockton and John T. Yannone and his wife Robyn of Lynnfield. She was the sister of Richard Carr of ME, Barbara Ingalls of Plympton, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of FL and Judith Carr of Halifax. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her dear friend Paul Murphy of Plympton.

Augusta L. Waters, 87 of Carver died on August 11, 2008 in the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth after being stricken very suddenly. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada daughter of the late Augustus and Bertha (Edgett) Waters and was raised and educated in Boston. Miss Waters was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the WAVES in World War II. She retired in 1983 after a 35 year career with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. She had been a longtime Hanover resident and has made her home in Carver since 1980. She was an active volunteer for the Plymouth Council on Aging for many years, in addition she was a member of the Pilgrim Chapter-Order of the Eastern Star, Telephone Pioneers of America, and was formerly an active member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church in Norwell. Augusta was currently a member and active participant in the United Parish in Carver.

Donna K. Durfee, , 61 of Rockland died very suddenly at her home on August 9, 2008. She was born in Rockland daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Flynn) Carey and was raised and educated there. She was a graduate of Rockland High School and later attended Quincy Jr. College. Donna has been employed for nearly 30 years as a medical assistant at Harbor Medical Associates and South Shore Hospital. She had previously worked at Rockland Trust Co. She was a former member of the Rockland Sons of Italy, the Rockland PTA and had been active in Rockland Youth Hockey and the Rockland High School Boosters Club.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Durfee and their children, James J. Durfee and his wife Alicia of Weymouth, Ryan C. Durfee and his wife Cheryl of Rockland, Timothy G. Durfee and his wife Susan of Hanson and Sean C. Durfee of Rockland. She was the mother of the late Terrance M. Durfee. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kayla, Delaney and Cameron Durfee.

Daniel J Hart, age 82, of Rockland, formerly of Dorchester, died August 9, 2008 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a period of failing health.
Daniel was born in Boston, son of the late Daniel and Eleanor (Conroy) Hart. Mr. Hart was raised and educated in Dorchester, and Spent most of his life there before moving to Rockland seven years ago. Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hart worked as a warehouse foreman for the Spencer Shoe Company in South Boston for over thirty years. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed following the Red Sox, and Patriots. Daniel is described by his family as a “True family man” who loved to spend time with his family at cookouts and other family gatherings.
Daniel was the Husband of Lillian (Ittner) Hart of Rockland. Father of, Daniel M. Hart of NV. Brother of Abigail Smallcomb of Bridgewater. Grandfather of, Daniel J. Hart, and Steven L. Hart of NV. Frank W. Sartori, age 78, of Rockland, died August 6, 2008 at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a period of failing health. He was born in Quincy, son of the late Frank and Edna (Moore) Sartori. Frank was raised and educated in West Quincy, and attended Quincy High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Frank Retired in 2002 after working for many years as a truck driver for the Lorusso-Bristol Stone Corporation.
Frank was an amateur airplane pilot and owner. He enjoyed flying to various destinations with his family and friends. Mr. Sartori was also an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also an accomplished amateur wine maker whose recipe for “Italian Red” was enjoyed by many. Frank was a very active man belonging to many different organizations including, The American Legion Abington Post #112, Rockland Sons of Italy, Rockland Eagles, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assoc., Hanson Rod and Gun Club, A.A.R.P., and the Rockland Senior Citizens.

Eunice F. Cedrone, age 68, of Rockland, died August 5, 2008 in the Boston Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Edward and Ruth (Beach) Lynch. Eunice was raised and educated in Hyde Park, graduating from Hyde Park High School in 1957.
Mrs. Cedrone was formerly a salesperson at Lord and Taylor’s Department Store in Braintree. Eunice enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun with her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband on vacations, especially to Aruba. She was a voracious reader, and was a lover of all animals. More than anything, Eunice enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild.
She is survived by her husband Donald Cedrone of Rockland. She is the mother of Chris Cedrone of N.C., Anthony Cedrone of N.H., Jeffrey Cedrone of Rockland, and the late Lynn Cedrone. Sister of Joan Regal of Quincy, Anne Valcourt of Quincy, Jacquline Vanelli of Randolph, and Edwina Sierra of Abington, sister-in-law of James Cedrone of Middleboro. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Walter D. Clark, 65 of Revere died on August 4, 2008 at his home after a period of failing health. He was born in Medford, son of Charles J. and Margaret (McDonald) Clark and was raised and educated there graduating from Medford High School. Walter was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Commander’s Club of the D.A.V. and the Malden Veteran’s of Irish Ancestry Association.
He is survived by his children, John W. Clark of Lowell, Gregory P. Clark of Tyngsboro, Christopher J. Clark of N. Billerica and Joshua J. Clark of Rockland. Adele Micciche, 98 of Stoneham, died on Sunday August 3, 2008 at the Bear Hill Nursing Center after a long period of failing health. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Peter and Sophie (Kwiatkowski) Janosz. Adele had been employed for several years as a packer at the Armour Meat Packing Co.
Widow of Michael Micciche, she is survived by her son Daniel W. Mendalka and his wife Diane of Wilmington, her grandchildren, Daniel Mendalka, Darren Mendalka, Derek Sanchioni and Danielle Biggins and her great grandchildren, Michael Gallela, Ashley Ross and Brittney Ross.

Margaret G. Garvey, 87 of Marshfield formerly of Rockland and South Boston died on August 1, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late William and Helen (Waldron) Bailey and was raised and educated in South Boston.
Mrs. Garvey had been a longtime Rockland resident before moving to Marshfield 12 years ago. She enjoyed arts and crafts especially knitting, painting and crocheting. Margaret retired many years ago after working for ten years as a supervisor at Electro Signal Labs in Rockland.
Wife of the late John F. Garvey, Sr.. She was Mother of John F. Garvey, Jr. of S. Weymouth, Helen A. Cresswell of Rockland, Jerry E. Garvey of Marshfield and Pamela A. Garvey of Millis. Ronald A. Pinkham, 54 of Rockland died on July 25, 2008 after being stricken very suddenly. He was born in Brockton son of Marjorie O. (Keene) Pinkham of NH and the late Philip W. Pinkham, Sr. He was raised and educated in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy Vo-Tech High School.
Mr. Pinkham had been employed in the shipping and receiving department of Sears in Braintree for 24 years. Ronald was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jean M. McClure, 89 of Duxbury formerly of Rockland died on July 22, 2008 at the Bay Path at Duxbury Nursing Facility. She was born raised and educated in Nashua, NH and had been a longtime Rockland resident.
Mrs. McClure had been employed for several years as a Nurse’s Aide at the former Golden Days Rest Home in Rockland.
Wife of the late John V. McClure, she is survived by her children, Frederick McClure of NH, Elizabeth St. Jean of Wareham, Kevin McClure of E. Bridgewater and Cheryl Russell of Plymouth as well as 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Jean was the mother of the late Janet McClure.

W. Richard "Dick" Grant, a dedicated and loving husband to Paula J. (Neary) Grant, died Sunday after a long illness. He was the son of the late Coleman H. Grant Jr., and Shirley A. Grant of Abington MA. Dick is survived by three sons and their wives; Kenneth & Krystal Grant of South Carolina, Scott and Misty Grant of North Carolina, and Jason & Jessica Grant of Florida, his siblings; Kent Grant of Maine, Cheryl White of Duxbury, James Grant of Plymouth, and Marcus Grant of Marshfield. “Papa” is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ken’s children, Kyle, Jordan, Cassidy, Alex, and Nathaniel, and Scott’s children, Mackenzie and Campbell.
Dick grew up in Abington MA, where he graduated from Abington High School in 1960. He was a baseball and soccer coach in the Abington youth sports programs, and he was a member of the United Church of Christ. He graduated from Babson College in 1974, and he served as a reservist in the United States Marine Corp. Dick worked as an insurance salesman for ten years with the New York Life Insurance company. He also spent 20 years working independently in real estate sales and insurance; in later years he was a building contractor. He was a member of several organizations including the Massachusetts Insurance Underwriters Association, the Knights of Columbus of Rockland, and was an avid golfer who belonged to Country Club of Halifax for 25 years.
Dick enjoyed coaching baseball and soccer while his boys were young. He enjoyed traveling with son’s to golf tournaments, and he liked to go fishing while vacationing in Maine. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii with Paula and their close friends. Dick resided all of his life in Abington.

Joan B. "Tonie" King, 74, died on July 18, 2008 at the South Shore Rehabilitaion and Skilled Care Facility in Rockland. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late George A. and Elsie Gillespie and was raised and educated in Dorchester. She was a graduate of Archbishop Cushing Central Catholic High School. Tonie has made her home in Rockland since 1957.
She was very proud to have been actively involved in the Defenders Music Association, having served as treasurer of the drum and bugle corps for many years. Mrs. King retired several years ago after serving for nearly a dozen years as a secretary in the Rockland Public Schools both at Rockland High School and in the office of the Superintendant.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred T. King and her children, Jacqueline M. King of Jamaica Plain and Steven A. King and his wife Carol of Shrewsbury. She was the sister of George A. Gillespie of Northboro and the late Lester” Buddy” Gillespie. Tonie was the proud grandmother of Kristen and Tyler King of Shrewsbury. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Anne S. Sullivan, 62, of N. Weymouth formerly of Rockland died on July 18, 2008 at the Colonial Nursing Home in Weymouth after an illness. She was born in England daughter of the late Francis and Doris M.(Read) Geloran and was raised and educated in Rockland graduating from Rockland High School. Anne later received an Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College. Known to be loving and devoted to her family Anne also enjoyed participating in local Bingo games.
She retired several years ago after working with her sister at Wrap Ups, a gift wrapping service located at several malls, most recently at the Hanover Mall.
She is survived by her son Daniel S. Sullivan and his wife Brenda of S. Weymouth. Her grandchildren Abigail Sullivan and Jacob VanLare of S. Weymouth, and her siblings, Mary J. Davidson of N. Weymouth, Kimberly F. Grooms and Claudia J. Leavenworth of FL, Francine E. O’Connell of Whitman, and Roland J. Geloran of Brockton. Also surviving is her step mother Marjorie Geloran of E. Bridgewater and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Geloran and longtime companion of the late Richard McCarthy.

Paul F. Fay, 74 died on July 15, 2008 at his home in Rockland surrounded by his family and cared for by Old Colony Hospice. Paul was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer having served in the submarine service aboard the USS Nautilus, USS Becuna, USS Sea Robin and the USS Carp. He had extensive world wide service in a naval career that spanned from end of World War II to the Vietnam War.
He was born in Quincy son of the late Leo A. and Helen M. (King) Fay and was raised and educated in Hull. He has made his home in Rockland for the past 40 years. After his retirement from the Navy he held many positions including serving in the maintenance department of the New England Conservatory in Boston, providing security for the Gillette Co. and owning and operating his own businesses the Green Derby Restaurant in S. Boston and Rockland Pool Supply on Union St. in Rockland. Paul retired from the maintenance department of the Rockland Public Schools in 1995 after 10 years of service. He was active in softball leagues in Southie and was known for his volunteer spirit.
He was a member of the Top 3 Military Retirees, Rockland Post 1788 VFW, Post 50, American Legion in Rockland, USV-VE Post in Rockland, Old Colony Post DAV in Rockland, Rockland Council #165 Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge # 2232 in S. Weymouth, Rockland Aerie of Eagles and the Rockland Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen A. (Geraghty) Fay, his children Paul F. Fay, Jr. of Hanover, Christopher M. McKinnon of Canton, Megan M. Richardson of Brockton and Daniel J. Fay of Rockland. He was the brother of Leo K. Fay and Jacqueline Lamantia of Fl., Rosemary Angeramo of Peabody and the late Mary E. “Betty” Fay and Patricia K. Rockett. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Judith A. (Quill) Lucas, 65 died on July 14, 2008 at her home in Rockland cared for by her family and assisted by The Hospice of the South Shore. Judi was born in Boston, daughter of the late Cornelius and Virginia (Cunningham) Quill and was raised and educated in Dorchester and Weymouth. She had resided in Rockland for the past 42 years. She retired in 2006 from Production One Alarm Co. in Westwood after a 27 year career as an office manager.
Wife of the late Frederick A. Lucas, she is survived by her daughter Lyn-Ann Anderson and her husband John of Rockland. Judy was the grandmother of Lisa J. Anderson, Kerrey L. Anderson, Aime R. Anderson and Kelly M. Anderson. She was the sister of Patricia Wright of FL., Kevin Quill of Rockland, Francis Quill of N. Weymouth and the late Paul Quill. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

George D. Johnson, 81, died on July 2, 2008 at his home in Pembroke after a period of failing health. He was born in Brockton, son of the late Leander and Cora (LeDuc) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Rockland. He left Rockland at the young age of 16, proudly joining the Navy and serving in WWII. George was later honored with other Veterans who cut short their education to serve our country when Rockland High School presented them with high school diplomas. The diplomas honored them for the education they had certainly earned through life experience.
Upon returning from war, Mr. Johnson worked for many years as a shoemaker, working in several different companies, including the New England Shoe Company in Maine, and also for Footjoy, the company he eventually retired from. He also spent several years working for the Frye Sign Company in Rockland.
George belonged to the Hanson American Legion Post #143, the Rockland Kiwanis Club, and to the Hanson Rod and Gun Club. He loved Christmas, and volunteered every year working with children as a “Santa’s Helper.” George was a coin collector, a handyman, and enjoyed cribbage, and target shooting.
Husband of the late, Patricia Johnson. Father of, George D. Johnson of Pembroke, and Lisa A. Niven of Middleboro. Brother of Helen Marrese of Rockland. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Marie F. Munroe, 83 died on July 1, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Plymouth. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Frank B. and Mary (Daley) Waywood and was raised and educated in Quincy. She had resided in Rockland from 1965 until she moved to Cape Cod in 1999.
Marie was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the W.A.V.E.S. and later became a Life-Member of the Rockland DAV
Wife of the late Frederick A. Munroe, she is survived by her children, Stephen A. Munroe of Forestdale, Robert F. Munroe of SC, Frederick W. Munroe of New Bedford, Michael J. Munroe of Plymouth, Elaine M. Dykema of CA and Cheryl A. Ventresca of Cotuit. She was the sister of Br. Frank Waywood, OFM of NJ and the late Robert J. Waywood. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Edward H. Cunningham, 80,of Rockland died on June 29, 2008 in his home in Rockland after a period of failing health. He was born in Cambridge in 1927, son of the late Bernard and Margaret (Fay) Cunningham. Edward was raised and educated in Cambridge graduating from St. Paul’s High School. Mr. Cunningham was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
Edward worked for many years as a Production and Project Planner for the SIGMA company which later became known as the Pacific Scientific Company retiring in 1989. Mr. Cunningham also served as Treasurer of Retirement Employment for the SIGMA Company.
Mr. Cunningham was very active in the Rockland Leisurewood’s Community in which he lived. He formerly served as the President of the Leisurewood’s Homeowners Association, and enjoyed participating in the community’s bowling, and bingo leagues. He was also giving of his time, volunteering for several years at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth and with the Meals on Wheels Program.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Vincent)Cunningham. Father of Shirley N. Cunningham of Malden, Alan E. Cunningham of ME, and Margaret F. O’Neil of Stoughton. Brother of Bernard J. Cunningham of N.C. Grandfather of Ryan and Ty Cunningham of MA.

George Janhola, 85,of Abington died on June 28, 2008 at the Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Fitchburg in 1922, son of the late Arthur and Fina (Lehtinen) Jauhola.
George began working at the young age of 16, joining the Civilian Conservation Corps efforts to build roads in Colorado. When he was seventeen George moved back home and became a self taught cook, baker, and manager at Howard Johnson’s Resturaunt where he eventually would meet his wife.
Mr. Janhola was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He signed up for the Navy on December 8, 1941, the day after the Pearl Harbor attacks. After returning home from the war George started his own carpentry business, George Janhola Builders which he ran for many years retiring in 1984.
Mr. Janhola was a life member of the Rockland V.F.W., as well as a life member of the D.A.V. In his free time he enjoyed cribbage, pool, golfing, fishing, and bowling. George was also known as a true handyman.
He is the husband of the late Eleanor (Rose) Janhola . Survived by his son Richard Janhola, and his wife Louise of Pembroke. Grandfather of Kristen L. Janhola of Middleboro, Kerry L. Sherry of Halifax, and Stefanie M. Haen of Pembroke. Also survived by 6 Great-Grandchildren, and George’s very special friend Helen Bartol of Whitman

Joseph David Hoadley, died on June 25, 2008 at the Children’s Hospital in Boston after a four month battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Born on February 22, 2008, Joseph was the cherished son of David P. and Christina W. (Whitcher) Hoadley of Hanover.
He is also survived by his grandparents, John and Donna Hoadley of Hanover and Carita Whitcher of Rockland. He was the grandson of the late George Whitcher. Joseph will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Robert D. Jackson, 72 of Rockland formerly of S. Weymouth died on June 23, 2008 at the Coyne Healthcare Facility in Rockland after a period of failing health. He was born in Boston son of Audrey (Clifton) Jackson of Rockland and the late William Jackson and was raised and educated in Roxbury. Mr. Jackson was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He had been employed for several years as a member of the maintenance staff of the Newton Public Schools and for most of his career he was a painter throughout Boston and the South Shore for several different contractors and had also been self employed in the same field. Robert had been a longtime resident of S. Weymouth and had made his home in Rockland for the past 3 years.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Sandra M. (Douglas) Jackson and his children, AbdulMalik Jackson of Cambridge, Sharron L. Jackson of Framingham and Sheli D. Thompson of Newton. He was the brother of Louise Braxton of Medford, Marilyn A. Tyler of Rockland, Phyllis B. Jackson of Rockland, Wilbur K. Jackson of Newton and the late William Jackson, Jr. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren a great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Becky J. (Stevens) Coit, 70 of Amherst, VA formerly of Rockland, MA died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at her residence. She was the widow of Leo P. Coit.
She was born in Plympton, on Aug. 18, 1937, daughter of the late Melvin H. and Lois A. (Dean) Stevens and was raised and educated on the South Shore. Although her schooling was interrupted, she was very proud that she graduated with a full high school diploma from Rockland High School in 1989.
Her career was as a hairdresser, working with several shops in the Rockland. She worked at His ‘n’ Hers Hair Design for 18 years until her retirement in 2003. Her customers loved her as she did them, maintaining friendships after she relocated to Amherst, VA.
She is survived by her three children, Leonard Newcomb of Springfield, VT, Robin DeMeo of Rockland, MA, and Nanci McLellan of Amherst, VA, as well as her grandchildren, Steven Newcomb, Christopher Newcomb, Renee’ DeMeo, Marino DeMeo, Kristinna McLellan, and Rebekkah McLellan, one great–grandchild, Malik Newcomb, her step children Richard Coit of Halifax, Mary Provonche of Pembroke, Diane Simpson of Carver, Patty Chandler of Plymouth, and the late Christine Luce. Also surviving are her mother, Lois A. Stevens of Lynchburg, VA, one sister, Nancy Corkum of Woodstock, VT, and three brothers, Robert Stevens Canton, NC, Melvin (Meb) Stevens, Jr. of Middletown, VA, and Richard (Dick) Stevens, of Amherst, VA, her former husband, Raymond Newcomb and her best friends Faith Stevens and Judy Casagrande.
Becky was devoted to her family until the time of her death. After her children were grown, she devoted herself to helping others, with a special dedication to Veterans. She was a President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1788 Rockland, MA. As the State Chairman for POW*MIA, Becky planned and executed over 400 candlelight ceremonies and flag raisings for POW*MIA, in the northeast states and served as coordinator and master of ceremonies for Vietnam Veterans Day for approximately 20 years. Becky has been involved in the collection and distribution to soldiers serving in Desert Shield and Storm, Bosnia, Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Iraq War.
She was awarded the Civilian Award for Public Service in 1986 from the Department of the Army at Ft. Devens and also was awarded a Life Membership in the Special Forces Association at Fort Bragg, NC #A-999, and the Molly Pitcher Award for outstanding service to the field artillery community.
Having worked on the Abington, Rockland, and Whitman Veteran’s Day events, she was selected by the Tri-Town Committee to be the first female non-veteran in history to serve as grand marshal for the parade in 1999. She also worked with the U.S. Veterans-Vietnam ERA Post 2 SSG. Richard A. Fitts Chapter as editor of their newsletter. Her unfulfilled dream was to serve in the military but she felt she had done the next best thing
Among her other interests were her involvement in many local service organizations including being a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, Little League and softball coach, Sunday School teacher and a volunteer Santa Claus for local nursing homes V.A. Hospitals and homes for special needs children. Becky had also served as a member of the Rockland High School Band Boosters and was an election warden for the town of Rockland. She was a devoted auto racing fan. She loved writing poetry, people, history and reading.
